It's always nice to see one or two confiding Nearctic shorebirds each autumn. No finds this year, but some great views of both Baird's and Pectoral Sandpiper over the weekend in Kerry and, after a few hours on Inishbofin on Wednesday, we were afforded 45 minutes with the Lesser Yellowlegs at Ballyconneely late afternoon. It was by far and away the tamest of the bunch I've seen - lying on the edge of the lough, the bird would routinely walk by us, feeding unconcernedly, at just a few metres' range - it was sometimes too close to focus on! Brilliant!
This is the first autumn I've had an SLR at my disposal on these kind of birds - really think it's the best thing I've ever bought!
